~ Valentine's Day ~ We welcomed into the word a very long waited litter from Storm. We are beside ourselves with joy to see the birth of 3 large healthy babies born; 2 males and 1 female. What a year 2012 has been here at Toujour Kennel. So much has happened and to sum it up here is a list of our crew's achievements:
STORM - gained a Rally'O Novice pass and started her duties with Delta Therapy Dog program attending a local rehabilitation hospital CYNDER - gained her qualification for these titles; Gamblers Dog, Jumping Dog, Snooker Dog, Strategic Pairs Dog, Endurance Test and Pre-trial (herding). Not to mention a pass in Rally'O Novice. Cynder really pulled in the titles this year! RAIVEN - slowed down in the showing and went on to be a wonderful mother whelping her first litter and the first litter for our kennel. This was the Amour litter - which we have run on VALA her daughter (who curently is staying with friends of ours, Kim Garlic, in Sydney). VALA has been introduced to the show ring and has achieved a Baby Puppy in Group while she was in TAS handled by Ms Fay Harris. KOVU - gained his Australian Champion Title in the showring along the way achieving 4 class in group awards and a Runner Up Best in Group as well. Also in other sports Kovu has two qualification (passes) towards his Herding Test Title. SOCKS - gained her Herding Test Title and started earning some show points towards her Champion Title and while in the ring she achieved 2 class in group awards. NITRA - only just a new member to the team, will hopefully make her achievements next year. Overall our dogs have achieved 7 new titles and 6 additional quali's/passes towards future titles. In April Raiven came into season and Brian and I came to a decision that we would give Raiven a chance for a litter as we had the time on our hands and to see how Raiven copes with being a ‘mummy’.
Our choice in a male lead us to Markku the sire based on the facts that he was a nice outcross (un-related), a lovely Black/Tan and White (Typical), passed all health tests, Clear of PRA, produced excellent temperaments in his previous litter (us even owning one of his son’s) and close in distance to reach. All boxes ticked I was happy to continue expecting a nice pedigree, healthy and ‘typical’ litter. Raiven over the next 8weeks certainly put on the weight and I was expecting a nice sized litter . . . On Tuesday June 12th as I was coming home from work I had a call from Brian saying he suspected Raiven’s labour and when I got home I confirmed that yep she was in her first stages . . . we weren’t expecting this until the weekend! I made a phone call to Raiven’s Breeder and my mentor Melissa Waters and she kept telling me it’s too early – but I still placed my bet that tonight would be the night. I took out the single mattress from the spare room and set it up beside the whelping area, preparing for a long night. Finally falling asleep around 10:30pm |
